I Left. Something Followed Me.

I left quietly, without ceremony. I thought leaving would feel clean but it didn't.

I left quietly, without ceremony. No slammed doors, no final words, no dramatic turning of the page. Just a soft closing behind me and the sound of my own footsteps carrying me forward.

I thought leaving would feel clean, a sharp line between before and after. But something followed me. Not a person, not a memory exactly, but a presence. A truth I hadn't wanted to name.

It stayed with me, just behind my shoulder as I walked. Not heavy. Not haunting. Just... there. A reminder that you can leave a place, a moment, a version of yourself, but some things come with you because they're meant to.

I didn't realise what it was until I stopped to breathe. It wasn't regret. It wasn't fear. It was the part of me that had finally decided to choose myself.

I left.

And the thing that followed me was the truth I'd been trying to outrun, the one that didn't want to be left behind.
